Dakota Fanning was born February 23<FONT SIZE="1" COLOR="#FFFFFF" FACE="Arial" >rd</FONT>, 1994, in Conyers, Georgia. Dakota has the cutest blue eyes and the most beautiful blonde hair. She wanted to show everyone what she could do since she was three years old. She even pretended to go through child birth, using a blanket as her stomach and her younger sister Elle played the baby. Elle, looks just like Dakota and plays the younger version of her sister in a lot of Dakota's films. At the age of 8, Dakota was the youngest to ever be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award (SAG Award). When she received an award from BAFTA for her work in I am Sam in 2001, she was too short to reach the microphone to give her acceptance speech. Presenter Orlando Bloom held her up to the microphone for the duration of her speech, and her speech turned out to be quite long. She began her career at age five when she was picked out of thousands of hopeful kids to be in a National tide commercial. Not to long after her tide commercial she appeared in the hit television series “<I>ER</I>” at age six, followed soon after that on The <I>Ally McBeal show</I> as five-year-old Ally. Since Dakota was getting a lot of work in the L.A. area her parents decided they would move from their home town of Conyers, Georgia to the large city of L.A. They stayed with Dakota's aunt for a while and then got their own apartment and decided to stay in L.A, permanently since Dakota kept getting job offers. Soon after she moved to L.A. she guest starred in <I>Strong Medicine</I> and <I>C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigations)</I>. Dakota played her first role in a featured film in 2001 as Lucy Diamond Dawson, the extraordinary daughter of a mentally handicapped man played by Sean Penn in the movie<I> I Am Sam. </I>Her performance was enormously praised by the critics. When someone asked her how she was able to cry on cue for the camera, she replied that she thought about her goldfish that had died. She said that she could relate to the role because her aunt is mentally challenged, and cited an incident where her aunt said she couldn't come to Dakota's birthday party because she had to shave her legs. After her roles in <I>I Am Sam </I>and the teenager film <I>Tomcats, </I>she has appeared in such films as <I>Trapped</I>, <I>Sweet Home Alabama, 24 Hours, and Hansel and Gretel.</I> She is featured in the Steven Spielberg 20-hour SCI-FI Channel miniseries <I>Taken, </I>both as the narrator in all 10 episodes, but also in the pivotal role of the part alien part human child Allie Keys. She met Steven Spielberg at the Premiere of ET: The Extra Terrestrial, but he never came to the set of Taken. She has future roles scheduled in <I>The Cat in the Hat, Uptown Girls </I>and <I>Man on Fire. </I>Dakota has also appeared in the<I> The Practice, Malcolm in the Middle, Spin City, and The Fighting Fitzgeralds. </I>Dakota is home schooled and has her teacher travel everywhere with her.
